| Route
One [Walk]
Starting at
Roonagh Pier, follow the headland to your left or South. Take care along
this route as erosion has narrowed the path and the cliffs could be
undercut. The erection of a barbed wire fence hasn't helped
matters. Once passed these obstacles proceed on to
Emlagh Strand, here you can either follow the beach south or take the road
to Emlagh village and from there turn left to Accony crossroads. Straight
on to the sea and upon reaching the sea wall turn left along the cliff
road [taking extreme care]. This road will bring you out onto the Accony -
Roonagh road. Turn right to return to Roonagh Pier.
If you decided to carry
on south at Emlagh Strand, at the southern end of the strand, go up to the
road on the left [on top of sand dunes] to Doughmackeown. Follow the road
and take the first left, this in turn will take you back to the Accony
cross roads. It is possible to cycle for part of this route, but you would
need to carry your cycle for a considerable distance, so it isn't
recommended!

Route Two [Walk]
Old Head Woodland walk.
Park at Old Head car park, follow the
road to the pier. Go onto the beach to the left and then follow the
sign posted route. Take great care on this walk as the surfaces can
be very slippery on the steep slopes. This walk takes you through an
ancient Oak Wood and along cliff tops giving spectacular views over Clew
Bay and the South coastline of North Mayo. There is the added bonus
of some rock fishing here, but again proceed with great caution.
